At the Garni Alpin in the picturesque mountain village of Siusi allo Sciliar, the Egger family welcomes you to a fun-filled holiday in the Dolomites. The eight guest rooms in our house are the perfect starting point for excursions into the pristine mountains of South Tyrol.

Siusi allo Sciliar is dominated by the mighty peaks of Mount Sciliar (2,563 meters). The distinctive summit is a symbol of South Tyrol and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. At its foot lies the Alpe di Siusi, the largest mountain plateau in Europe, which you may explore in every season starting directly from your accommodation in Siusi allo Sciliar. In the summer, a 350-kilometers hiking trail network awaits you, and in the winter, the hills of the ski area Alpe di Siusi turn into a premier ski area with ski slopes, cross-country trails, toboggan runs and a snowboard park.

Eight comfortably furnished guest rooms offer a snug accommodation in Siusi allo Sciliar during your holidays in the Sciliar area. The rooms are offered including breakfast and are a cosy retreat. Television, telephone, room safe and hairdryer are available, and of course all accommodations have a private bathroom with shower and toilet. In the outdoor area there is a sunny lawn and a parking space for your car, upon request also a garage. In the morning, you may enjoy a rich breakfast buffet in the house and then happily start out for your activities in the mountains. A infrared cabin is available to guests for a small fee.

With the Alpe di Siusi, an excellent hiking area is located right outside the front door of your accommodation in Siusi allo Sciliar. The cable car will take you quickly and comfortably to the largest mountain plateau in Europe – the valley station is just 300 meters from the Garni Alpin. Varied themed hiking paths, beautiful climbing routes and challenging high-altitude trails await you in this region during the summer months. The Lake of Fiè is a crystal clear bathing lake, and it is just a short drive away.

The accommodation is close to the village centre of Siusi; thus, restaurants and shops may be easily reached on foot.

South Tyrolean folklore –Event highlights in Siusi allo Sciliar

The tradition-conscious alpine region at the Sciliar Massif welcomes you throughout the year with numerous events. Flamboyant pageants and processions are held on certain holidays such as Heart of Jesus, Corpus Christi and Thanksgiving. The traditional Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride is the largest equestrian event in South Tyrol – it takes place in Castelrotto, Siusi and Fiè allo Sciliar. The event is named after the medieval minstrel, who once lived nearby the village in the Castle Hauenstein. Other event highlights include the Kastelruther Spatzen Festival in October and the Kastelruther Spatzen Open Air in the spring. During your winter holidays you can look forward to the Moonlight Classic Alpe di Siusi Marathon. In this cross-country skiing race on the Alpe di Siusi athletes compete with each other after dark.

Castles and fortresses: Architectural highlights in the Sciliar area

The area surrounding the village of Siusi allo Sciliar offers an abundance of medieval castles, historic buildings and magnificent palaces. Just above the village, the ruins of Castle Hauenstein invite you to a visit. In the late Middle Ages, it was the residence of the popular knight and poet Oswald von Wolkenstein. The ruins of Castle Salegg rise on a rocky promontory at the foot of the Sciliar. The fortress was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Saleck and given to decay at the beginning of the 17th century. At a distance of six kilometres from the Garni Alpin, the Castle Trostburg rises on a promontory. The massive edifice was built in the 12th century and is one of the most impressive castles in South Tyrol. During a beautiful hike, you may also visit the Castle Presule in Fiè allo Sciliar.

Not only in rainy weather, numerous museums and attractive destinations in the surroundings of Siusi allo Sciliar invite you to a visit. The Kastelruther Spatzen Museum in Castelrotto celebrates the great successes of the most popular folk music band in South Tyrol. Enjoy an interesting excursion to the School Museum in Tagusa and to the Farmers’ Museum in S. Osvaldo. In the South Tyrolean provincial capital of Bolzano you may visit the Archaeological Museum, where the mummy of the Stone Age hunter “Ötzi” is exhibited, while in the spa town of Merano the botanical gardens of Castle Trauttmansdorff welcome you with lush Mediterranean vegetation.
