The village of Siusi allo Sciliar is dominated by the impressive 2,563-meter peak of the Schlern, one of South Tyrol’s most iconic mountains and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. At its foot lies the Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi), the largest high-altitude alpine meadow in Europe, which you can explore in every season from your accommodation in Siusi allo Sciliar.
In summer, the Seiser Alm hiking network with more than 350 kilometers of trails attracts hikers and nature lovers, while also offering an Eldorado for mountain bike tours. In winter, the slopes of the Seiser Alm ski area transform into a first-class winter sports destination with ski slopes, cross-country trails, toboggan runs, and a snowboard park.

The area surrounding the village of Siusi allo Sciliar offers an abundance of medieval castles, historic buildings and magnificent palaces. Just above the village, the ruins of Castle Hauenstein invite you to a visit. In the late Middle Ages, it was the residence of the popular knight and poet Oswald von Wolkenstein. The ruins of Castle Salegg rise on a rocky promontory at the foot of the Sciliar. The fortress was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Saleck and given to decay at the beginning of the 17th century. At a distance of six kilometres from the Garni Alpin, the Castle Trostburg rises on a promontory. The massive edifice was built in the 12th century and is one of the most impressive castles in South Tyrol. During a beautiful hike, you may also visit the Castle Presule in Fiè allo Sciliar.
